Designer Profile: L’Essence de Joli Jour Paris

A Passion for Painting

As far as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to paint. Not something you really choose, but something that haunts you, that eats you up from the inside.
When I was little, I was always drawing. Like an obsession. Scribbles that took up space in my head, like an escape.

The Origins of Joli Jour Paris: From Image to Matter

Painting is more than a desire, it’s a rage. It twists my stomach, it shakes me from the inside.
To feel each brushstroke like a discharge, an adrenaline rush. A trance.
When I attack a canvas, I become someone else. Free, alive, almost invincible.
It’s a raw, animal force that takes me over, that tears me away from normality.
Painting is vital. A need that surpasses everything else. It replaces words, it replaces cries, it calms fears and dries tears…

That’s where all the De Joli Jour Paris collections come from. From this urgency, this pain that I transform into color.
Because what I paint isn’t just to look pretty, it’s to live.

Photography: Another Creative Language

And then, one day, photography came into my life. Not as a break, but as an extension. Another language to say the same thing. In my work as an interior designer, I began to see things differently. Materials, objects, spaces: everything became a composition, a painting in the making. I constructed each setting like a still life, playing with shadows, light and textures. It wasn’t just a job, it was a way of freezing the moment, capturing the soul of the place.

I’ve always had a soft spot for places that are a little forgotten, old-fashioned places that tell stories. An old house with chipped shutters, a kitchen where the tiles have seen generations, a faded piece of wallpaper still clinging to the walls. I wanted to keep these places alive, not let them disappear. So I photographed them. With a fixed idea: to make them a memory, a tribute to their discreet poetry.

A Family Adventure: Creating to Tell the Story

It was this poetry that guided me, and that I wanted to share. My sister Ariane and I started dreaming together. Of a world that reflected us, where each creation would tell a story. Joli Jour Paris was born of this. From an almost visceral need to transform raw beauty into something tangible, something alive.

Today, each collection is a page in the story we write together. Between the fabrics, the furniture, the wallpapers, there’s a little of everything that haunts us: our memories, our obsessions, our stolen moments. Joli Jour Paris echoes what drives us, our desire to breathe soul into objects and places. Because in the end, what we create is more than a décor. It’s a life we reinvent, a setting we give to our dreams.
